As time progresses we
have started to spend more and more time intertwining our lives with
technology. What kinds of effects this has are being seen and what long reaching
effects are still being explored.
Over the past 30 years people have begun to use
technology in every facet of their daily life more and more. Many people have
their faces buried in a screen of some sort for a majority of any given day.
Why is this? Well there is so much more that technology can do, and as time
progresses many things are transferred over to versions of digital media. Technology
is also a very good way to keep in contact with people that you know at any
point in time and can instill in some people a need a need for instant contact
and gratification. With all this it’s easy to see why many are connected to
screens for a majority of the day. What kinds of effects does this have though?
There are negative effects such as a sedentary lifestyle and degradation of the
eyes due to staring at a consistent light source at one distance for so long.
There are also studies that point to people learning and remembering less
because of how easy it is to just pull up info. There are positives such as
quality of life improvements, being connected to others, and having ways to
entertain oneself with content you enjoy.
It is clear that there are negative effects that need to
be addressed because they effect health, but there are many positives thanks to
technology. Humanity has been given something tremendous very quickly and we’re
still evolving to deal with it.
